J.J. Abrams, director and producer of the as-yet-unnamed new Star Trek movie, announced at ComicCon that Zachary Quinto, Sylar from "Heroes," is going to play the young Spock. He does kinda look like a young Nimoy.
But wait, there's more! Turns out Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner are going to be making appearances in the new film, too.
Nimoy's 76. So is Shatner. Pretty soon, the only place they're going where no man has gone before will be in a set of Depends. I'm guessing they'll be used as a framing device for the movie... but didn't Kirk die with Picard 13 years ago?I'm skeptical on this one. I just finished re-watching the entire run of "Enterprise" with new roommate Bob, reaffirming that it was a kick-ass series with some pretty low moments. At the same time, it was really looking up the final season (until that atrocious finale episode). Hell, I'll go check out the new Trek film, out in 2008, so long as Rick Berman and Brandon Braga have nothing to do with it.

I've said it once, and I'll keep saying it over and over; Spock and Kirk are both characters synonymous with Nimoy and Shatner respectively. Nimoy is Spock. Shatner is Kirk.
And you're right, Kirk did die with Picard more than a decade ago. But, since this movie, from what I've heard at least, is a reboot of the franchise ala Casino Royale and Batman Begins, they may be sweeping that under the rug.
Not a bad idea really. Hell, Shatner has written an entire series of Trek novels about a resurrected Captain Kirk having adventures in the 24th century.
That said, I have no reason to really distrust J.J. Abrams beyond a few terrible arcs on Alias. So we'll see.
I'm still holding out hope for this "new Star Trek". I've always wondered what the original series would have looked like if they had today's special effects.
Part of what made "Enterprise" so cool (at least from the first couple of seasons I saw) was seeing the early days of the Star Trek universe through the new lense of our modern technology.
I'm usually a skeptic when it comes to remakes, but for some strange reason, I'm holding out hope for this one.
